Every business can and should be successful. And yours needs to be too.
Boss Your Business with Suresh Balachandar
Every business runs on 3 engines. How it earns, how it delivers, and how it handles money. When a good business stalls, one of those 3 has quietly stopped pulling its weight, and it is rarely the one the owner is looking at. The 90 minute call is a structured diagnosis. At the end of it you will know which engine to work on first.
90 seconds with me
Before you give anybody 90 minutes, take 90 seconds.
This is me saying the same thing the page says. No music and nothing to sit through. If the voice does not suit you, that is useful to know now rather than on the call.
01 The discovery call
90 minutes, and you leave knowing which engine to work on first.
Before anything is bought or sold, there is one call. It runs for 90 minutes on Zoom, on Google Meet, or in my room in Chennai. It is a structured diagnosis rather than a chat. We walk through the 3 engines one by one, and nothing is pitched.
- 90 minutesthe whole call
- No chargeand no obligation
- Zoom, Meet or my roomwhichever suits you
- English or Tamilwhichever you prefer
What happens in it
- 01You describe the business as it actually is rather than as it looks on paper.
- 02We walk through the 3 engines with your figures. How you earn, how you deliver, and how you handle money.
- 03I name the engine that has quietly stopped pulling its weight, and I say plainly when I am guessing.
- 04You leave knowing which engine to work on first. If I am not the right man for the work, I say that on the call rather than in month 3.
Most owners come off this call knowing one thing they did not know at the start of it. Some of them then work with me and some do not. Both of those are a good outcome for 90 minutes.
02 By the numbers
6 numbers hold the whole case.
Every number here is countable and every one of them is mine. There is no figure on this page about how much a client grew, because I did not run his business and I will not take credit for his work.
03 Who this is for
I work with businesses between ₹1 crore and ₹100 crore, and I say no more often than I say yes.
At ₹1 crore you are still inside every decision, and the thing holding the business down is almost always you. At ₹100 crore you have a team and the problem has moved into the structure. Both are my work. Neither is the same conversation. Here is the standard, in figures rather than in adjectives, so you can check it yourself before you spend 90 minutes on me.
I will take the work when
- 01The business turns over ₹1 crore or more. Below that the problem is usually the offer rather than the structure, and coaching is the wrong instrument.
- 02The business is 3 years old or more, so there is a pattern to read rather than a hope.
- 03You will release your figures. I do not diagnose a business from a conversation.
- 04You hold the authority to change how the business is built, not only how you think about it.
- 05You can act on one thing in a week without waiting for a plan.
I will not take the work when
- 01You have not started yet, or you are running a business alongside a job.
- 02You want energy in the room. Motivation wears off by Monday morning and I will not sell it.
- 03You want the prescription without the measurement. I do not guess at a business.
- 04The numbers stay closed. A coach working from your summary is being paid to agree with you.
- 05There is an unresolved dispute inside the family or the partnership. You have to settle that first, because no structure survives it.
This is not a filter I am proud of. It is the only honest way to work when the thing being bought is my own judgement. I also run a small number of one to one engagements at a time, and that is a fact about capacity rather than a reason to hurry.
04 The sequence
Nobody skips the measurement.
Not the founders who could afford to skip it, and not the ones who are certain they already know the answer. The order below is the order the work happens in, and it is not a price list. Most founders take one of the first 3, act on what it showed them, and stop there. That is a complete piece of work.
The figures are specifications rather than tiers. They tell you what a thing costs to run, not how serious it is.
9 years. Around 95 businesses. A method, written down.
I have coached since 2017, across manufacturing, trade and services in Tamil Nadu and India. The method is written down as proprietary frameworks across 6 domains, and the ones I use most are free to read before you pay me anything. A method you cannot inspect is a claim rather than a method.
05 Not sure which one
Answer 3 questions and I will tell you which of the 7 to take.
It takes about 20 seconds and nothing is collected. I would rather you took the right ₹2,000 thing than the wrong ₹50,000 one.
This is a rough sorting rather than a diagnosis. A real diagnosis needs your figures, and that is what the 90 minute call is for.
06 Take the measurement now
You read 10 statements in 2 minutes and you get a score you can act on this week.
This is the short form of the instrument I use in the room, and it is not gated. No name, no number, nothing collected. Answer honestly rather than hopefully, because a score you argue with is worth more than one you enjoy.
This is a reading rather than a diagnosis. A diagnosis needs your figures in front of both of us, and that is what the 90 minutes is for.
07 The method
My method is called the Business Machine.
In plain words, there are 3 things every business runs on. They are how it earns, how it delivers, and how it handles money.
Every business I have opened up runs on 3 engines, and they are the revenue engine, the operating engine and the financial engine. Under those 3 sit 9 working parts, and under those sit 27 things somebody actually does on a Tuesday. Nothing here is clever. It is simply a way of finding which of the 27 is holding the other 26 down.
The one thing worth knowing about this drawing is that I do not start with it. I start with your figures. The drawing is where the finding gets placed once there is one.
08 About me
The market made me a business coach.
I came to Chennai in 2004 with no plan and took whatever work there was. I freelanced for a while and then I worked alone. In 2008 I started a training company of my own. I had been an entrepreneur since the age of 19, and by then I had been on the wrong side of most of my own advice.
Then came 2017. A client put a chequebook on the table and asked me to stop training and start coaching his business. It was not a plan of mine, and it was an invitation I had not asked for.
I have coached ever since, and that comes to around 95 businesses in 9 years.
- 01MBA, International Trade and FinanceHow I read the business.
- 02M.Sc Applied Psychology, and 2 years of clinical trainingHow I read the person running it.
- 03An entrepreneur since 19, with successful businesses of my ownHow I know what the chair feels like. Most coaches come from corporate or from academia.
- 04At least 100 books a year, every year since 2017How the method stays current.
09 One ask
Give me 90 minutes and you will know.
There is one action on this page and this is it. The call runs for 90 minutes on Zoom, on Google Meet, or in my room in Chennai. Nothing is presented and nothing is pitched. At the end of it you will know which engine to work on first.
Or write to me directly. the_coach@sureshbalachandar.in
